These words only begin to describe the type of Chemistry Science program your 8th grade students will be involved with this year at Mesa Verde. In addition to the rigorous Chemistry Standards all students are expected to complete, they will learn skills that will enable them to be good problem solvers, creative thinkers and informed decision-makers. The Chemistry  units of study will last one Trimester. The other two Trimesters will focus on Physics and Engineering Standards.

Labs and Projects make up 70% of the Chemistry Labs are assigned so as to allow students  sufficient time for the completion of quality work in class. Homework can be accessed on-line via the class calendar. Homework is usually completing undone work from class. Ocassionally it will be an extension of the concepts covered. Class time is always given for the completion of Labs. Additional Lab & Project Times are also available during lunch, 4th period and before school on most days starting at 7:45am.

Technology is also a focus in the Science classroom. Students will use the following software in Chemistry:

  • Excel '03(graphing, spreadsheets and data tables)

  • Word '03 (cover pages, brochures, flyers, & documents)

  • PowerPoint '03 (presentations)

Students will gain a high level of proficiency using these software products. Students will be taught basic operation skills within these software tools during class and are not expected to already know how to use them.
