1st Semester - CHEMISTRY

The summer went by too quickly......as it always does! I hope everyone enjoyed their time off! It was fun for me to just be MOM for awhile. We were able to relax, read some books for fun, visit friends, get chores done around the house and go to the beach at least 3 times each week. We also did several  "STAYCATIONS" throughout San Diego with family and friends. It was all very relaxing and enjoyable.

I'm looking forward to a fun year in Chemistry. Please take some time and  look at the website for this class. Make sure to select the "CHEMISTRY" tab on the left. This will lead you to all the hyperlinked pages on the site. The most important ones for you will probably be the first three: "CALENDAR", "CHECK GRADES" and "ASSIGNMENT LOG".

The CALENDAR link will help you plan your week's activities and remind you when things are due. This would also be a good page to check if you are absent. You will know what you need to catch up on when you get back. This is also a good page for Parents and Guardians.....especially when they ask you what you're doing in Science class.

The "CHECK GRADES" hyperlink will allow you to check your grades regularly. (Also available through Learning Point.) The grades on-line are not permanent....they can be changed and updated to reach the grade you want in the class. PLEASE check them regularly to catch any mistake I may make and/or to help you figure out what you are missing and can do to improve your grade.  Don't forget there are 9 tutorials offered each week to help get your missing or late assignments completed.  (M, W-F 7:35-8:20, 4th period lunch w/ a pass)

And finally, the "ASSIGNMENT LOG" hyperlink will help you keep your personal ASSIGNMENT LOG in order and updated.

JUST A COUPLE OF REMINDERS:

Back to School Night will be held this year on Sept. 3rd starting at 6:30pm. All 8th grade chemistry classes should meet during their assigned period throughout the evening in  Rm. 313/314. We look forward to meeting with you.

Extra time to complete labs, ask questions, get extra help are available M, W-F 7:45-8:25am, in Rm. 313/314 and at Lunch 4th ...you can bring your lunch with you...just make sure you have a hall passI invite everyone to take advantage of these work times. It will give us a chance to go over things for better understanding,  have extra time on the lab equipment/computers and spend time talking about concerns you may have.

Final Words:

We must learn to learn, be flexible, develop strategies for dealing with change and be creative.

Thomas Edison was asked, "Aren't you upset that you failed?" He replied, "I didn't fail, I found 10,000 ways that didn't work!" As long as we learn from our mistakes we never will fail.

GOD BLESS AMERICA
