Life's Greatest Lessons by Hal Urban Over the summer I read many books. Some were for fun....OK, many were for fun and some were for personal growth. Hal Urban's book "Life's Greatest Lessons" is one that I read in one sitting and reminded me again of how important it is to continue developing the attitudes and skills necessary to attain good relationships, set and achieve personal goals and enjoy feelings of self worth. I know it seems that sometimes schools seem more concerned with test scores and how the budgets will be balanced. While these things are important a higher priority should be helping our young people develop into good human beings with good character. We need to help guide them towards making good choices, being thankful for all they have, the importance of being persistent and hard working, taking responsibility for their actions and learning from them, helping others, and laughing and playing every day. Each week I will talk a little bit about what I've learned from Hal Urban's book. I hope that you consider doing some of the activities I will present to you. We all should learn something new every day if we can. Lesson #1: "The smartest people in the world are the ones who know how to be happy." Have you ever really thought about what gives you happiness or what takes that happiness away? Is it money, things, people, nature, health, food, exercise, freedom? So, question #1: What REALLY makes you happy? Jot down a couple of things that would fit into each column.
What are some things you can do to make sure you are happy? |
